The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Yankton County in southeastern South Dakota...
northwestern Turner County in southeastern South Dakota...
Hutchinson County in southeastern South Dakota...

* until 1245 PM CDT.

* At 940 am CDT, numerous rural roads are reported to remain under
water at mid morning. Additional heavy rain will continue across
the warned area through the next 1 to 2 hours. Flash flooding will
remain a significant concern.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Yankton, Parker, Freeman, Marion, Menno, Irene, Chancellor,
Mayfield, Mission Hill, Kaylor, Volin, Milltown, Clayton, Utica,
Dolton, Lesterville and Olivet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

floods.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the James River near Scotland.
* From Friday evening to Wednesday morning.
* At 05am Thursday the stage was 7.37 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 13.00 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by 10 PM Friday and crest near
14.9 feet by Sunday September 23. The river will fall below flood
stage by Tuesday September 25.
* At stages near 15.5 feet... 431st Avenue is flooded where it crosses
the river in northwestern Yankton County.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this
afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and South
Dakota, including the following areas, in northwest Iowa,
Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay IA, Dickinson, Lyon IA, O'Brien,
Osceola, Plymouth, and Sioux. In southwest Minnesota,
Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln MN, Lyon MN, Murray, Nobles,
Pipestone, and rock. In South Dakota, Bon Homme, Brookings,
Charles Mix, Clay SD, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson,
Lake, Lincoln SD, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Turner,
Union, and Yankton.

* Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

* showers and a few thunderstorms will continue this morning. The
general rainfall will be trending downward. However there will
still be isolated to scattered pockets of heavy rain under the
heavier cells which will produce thunderstorms. Therefore
isolated areas could receive a quick one inch of rain in a brief
amount of time, on top of already saturated ground.

* Reports of County and township roads, and even some state
highways underwater are coming in for locations south of
Interstate 90. Heavy rains can lead to flash flooding, with
water covered roads and urban flooding possible.

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
