Areal Flood Watch

... Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Piedmont North Carolina and western North
Carolina, including the following areas, in Piedmont North
Carolina, Alexander, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie,
Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union. In
western North Carolina, Avery, Buncombe, Burke mountains,
Caldwell mountains, eastern McDowell, eastern Polk, greater
Burke, greater Caldwell, greater Rutherford, Henderson,
McDowell Mountains, Polk mountains, Rutherford mountains,
southern Jackson, and Transylvania.

* Until 6 PM EST this evening

* periods of light to moderate rainfall will combine with
continued snow melt to greatly increase water runoff into
streams and main Stem rivers. Additional rainfall amounts of
up to one-half inch, with locally higher amounts, are possible
today across much of western North Carolina.

* Minor flooding of streams and main Stem rivers is possible.
Minor roadway flooding is also possible, especially across
areas with an extensive snow pack where storm drains may be
blocked.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
