... Flood Watch in effect until Monday evening...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a
* Flood Watch for
the West Fork Des Moines River at Emmetsburg, or from near
Graettinger... to Cylinder creek near West Bend.
* Until Monday evening.
* At 4:15 am Thursday the stage was 5.3 feet, or 5.7 feet below
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise to flood stage midday Friday. Continue rising to
12.0 feet, or 1.0 feet above flood stage, Saturday morning. Then
begin falling and go below flood stage Monday evening.
* There is limited confidence in this river forecast. Forecasts may
change so monitor for updated information.

afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central Iowa, northeast Iowa, and northwest
Iowa, including the following areas, in north central Iowa,
Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth,
Winnebago, Worth, and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Bremer. In
northwest Iowa, Emmet, Palo Alto, and Pocahontas.

* Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

* additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher
amounts is possible.

* These forecast rainfall amounts may lead to flash flooding.
Impacted rivers and streams may exceed their banks as well,
flooding nearby areas. Flash flooding may occur during the
overnight period, which is when most flash-flood related
deaths have occurred.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
