* Flash Flood Warning for...

southwestern Clay County in northwestern Iowa...
O'Brien County in northwestern Iowa...
northern Clay County in southeastern South Dakota...
Lincoln County in southeastern South Dakota...
northern Union County in southeastern South Dakota...

* until 1230 PM CDT.

* At 929 am CDT, numerous rural roads are reported to remain under
water at mid morning. Additional heavy rain will continue across
the warned area through the next 1 to 2 hours. Flash flooding will
remain a significant concern.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sioux Center, Orange City, Sheldon, Canton, Hawarden, Beresford,
Rock Valley, Hull, Lennox, Hartley, Sanborn, Alton, Paullina,
Primghar, Worthing, Inwood, Alcester, Boyden, Hospers and
Sutherland.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

* At 08am Thursday the stage was 90.46 feet.
* Flood stage is 90.00 feet.
* At stages near 90.0 feet... the lower banks overtop and minor
agricultural flooding begins.

* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10.00 feet.
* Forecast... the river will crest near 14.4 feet by 7 PM
Thursday.
* At stages near 14.5 feet... County Road b40 southeast of Spencer
begins flooding.

the Little Sioux river near Milford.
* Until Tuesday evening.
* At 05am Thursday the stage was 13.67 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12.00 feet.
* Forecast... the river will crest near 15.7 feet by 1 am Friday.
* At stages near 15.5 feet... the bridge on 190th Avenue near 2430th
street is overtopped, and 180th street between 170th Avenue and 190th
Avenue is flooded.

the Ocheyedan river near Spencer.
* Until late Sunday night.
* At 05am Thursday the stage was 9.73 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 8.00 feet.
* Forecast... the river will crest near 10.6 feet by 7 PM Thursday.
* At stages near 10.5 feet... major agricultural flooding begins and
some County roads are also flooded.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 PM CDT this
afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and South
Dakota, including the following areas, in northwest Iowa,
Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay IA, Dickinson, Lyon IA, O'Brien,
Osceola, Plymouth, and Sioux. In southwest Minnesota,
Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln MN, Lyon MN, Murray, Nobles,
Pipestone, and rock. In South Dakota, Bon Homme, Brookings,
Charles Mix, Clay SD, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson,
Lake, Lincoln SD, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Turner,
Union, and Yankton.

* Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon

* showers and a few thunderstorms will continue this morning. The
general rainfall will be trending downward. However there will
still be isolated to scattered pockets of heavy rain under the
heavier cells which will produce thunderstorms. Therefore
isolated areas could receive a quick one inch of rain in a brief
amount of time, on top of already saturated ground.

* Reports of County and township roads, and even some state
highways underwater are coming in for locations south of
Interstate 90. Heavy rains can lead to flash flooding, with
water covered roads and urban flooding possible.
