Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 6:48 PM MDT Jul. 20, 2018 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a

* small stream flood advisory for...
Coconino County 5 miles east of Mormon Lake in Padre Canyon in
north central Arizona...

* until 945 PM MST

* at 644 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms 5 miles east of Mormon Lake. This will cause small
stream flooding in the advisory area, mainly in Padre Canyon. Up
to two inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Ashurst Lake campgrounds.

Additional rainfall of about an inch is expected over the area in
the next few hours. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.

Padre Canyon is the most likely place to experience minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

When encountering flooded roads, make the smart choice: turn around,
don't drown.

Coconino County until 700 PM Arizona time...

At 617 PM MST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Mormon Lake, or 19 miles southeast of Flagstaff, moving southeast at
10 mph.

Nickel size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Ashurst Lake campgrounds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
